I write here under the pseudonym Nathan Cole. This allows me to keep my professional IT career and personal initiatives distinct, while still sharing insights openly and building a knowledge base around Generative AI.
I am based in Calgary, Alberta, and serving clients across Canada and the United States. For over 20 years I’ve worked at the intersection of technology, data and business strategy – from SQL database architecture to IT leadership – where reliability, scalability and precision are essential.
Today I carry that mindset into AI consulting: designing and deploying systems that deliver business value, not just conceptual demos.
My Story
My early career was focused on data infrastructure, performance tuning and enterprise-grade system reliability. I learned that good technology is as much about the architecture around it as the code inside it. As I pivoted into AI, I realised many organisations were running pilot projects that never got to production, or investing in hype instead of outcomes.
So I built a practice rooted in:

- North American delivery, with familiarity in Canadian and US regulatory, data and governance contexts
I hold an MBA with a concentration in Economics, and although I am not a professional economist I’ve long been fascinated by macroeconomic trends and their intersection with technology. My other writing (under the ‘ConsultDBA’ brand) reflected that interest. Here at YYCAI, you’ll find the same curiosity, but focused squarely on building systems that solve business problems.
